HSA Meeting November’s HSA Meeting has been rescheduled for this Friday, December 2nd at 11am, all are invited to attend. Please see October’s Meeting Minutes here.
Teachers Appreciation Breakfast is on 12/16, and we need your help to make our teachers feel appreciated and to kick off their holidays with a little cheer from the school parents. For this, we are asking for a small donation of $8, which will help cover breakfast for all the school staff. Here is a link for you to donate
Giving Tuesday & Friends of GW Each year, the GW HSA raises funds through Friends of GW to be used towards making a significant improvement to George Washington Middle School. These improvements fall outside the scope of the district's operating budget, but are nonetheless needed. This year's initiative has been designated towards upgrading equipment in the fitness center. Our goal is to raise $25,000 in order to make these purchases this year. The GW HSA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit and all donations are tax deductible. Donations are also eligible for employer matching. Donations can be made using this link.
GW Holiday Gift Drive We are having a holiday toy/warm accessories/book drive to provide holiday gifts to
children in Paterson through St. Paul’s Community Development Corporation. On Wednesday, 11/30, students will meet in their Advisory group to decide who will buy simple gifts (a hat and gloves and an age appropriate toy ($10-15) and book) for each of three children in need plus one large roll of wrapping paper. We are asking every student to bring in one gift item. Our school’s goal is to provide gifts for 180 children in total. If we meet our goal, the week before winter break will be a NO HOMEWORK week! Unwrapped items will be brought in on the morning of 12/8 (or earlier) to each student’s advisory teacher, and advisory groups will put each child’s gifts together
and bring them to room 313 (Mrs. McKinnon’s room). Additional donations are welcome. Thanks so much for helping us put smiles on the faces of so many little ones this holiday season!
No Cook Nights! The GW HSA will be teaming up with area restaurants over the next few months to bring you No Cook Night fundraisers!

GWMS Notices & Reminders
Students should not be dropped off or picked up in front of the school in the morning or at dismissal! Dropping off on Washington Pl. is dangerous to both children and drivers.
If your student can walk or bike to school that is a great option! If not, the safest place to drop off your child is a couple of blocks from school. They can walk to the corner and cross with the crossing guard.
EARLY DISMISSAL PROCEDURE
If your student needs to be dismissed before the end of the school day, you must give them a signed note indicating the reason for the request. This must be brought to the Main Office by the student at the start of the school day. The student will receive an Early Dismissal pass. At the start of the designated period, they will show the teacher the pass so they can leave the class at the designated time and report to the Main Office to await pick up.
TARDY POLICY
Classes begin at 8 am. Students are expected to be in their classroom when the 8:00 bell has rung. If your child will be tardy for any reason, you must call the Absence line at 201-670-2784 prior to 8:45 am. All reasons for tardiness require a phone call. If a student does not make it to class by 8 am, he/she will be marked tardy. After 8 am, your child should go directly to the Main office to obtain a late pass. Ongoing tardiness may be dealt with at the discretion of the Administrators.
